Hand Drum Workshop

$450.00

A Hand Drum Making Workshop with Ascendant Collective

There is something ancient in the sound of a drum. Long before concert halls or streaming playlists, the hand drum was the heartbeat of human ceremony… a tool for healing, prayer, storytelling, and gathering. In this two-day workshop, you won’t just learn about that history. You’ll become part of it.

What You’ll Experience

We open with a living history of the hand drum tracing its lineage through cultures across the globe, from the frame drums of the Middle East and Celtic traditions to the ceremonial instruments of Indigenous North American and Siberian peoples. You’ll leave understanding not just how drums are made, but why they matter.

From there, we move into the craft itself. Working with natural materials, raw hides, cedar frames, and traditional lacing. You’ll build your drum by hand, learning each step as you go. No prior experience is needed. The materials guide you, and so do we.

The workshop closes with a birthing ceremony, a sacred moment to call your drum into being, set your intention into the hide, and sound it for the first time.

Light refreshments are provided throughout the day to keep you nourished and grounded.

You’ll walk away with:

• Your own handcrafted drum, ready to play

• A deep understanding of the drum’s cross-cultural history

• Hands-on knowledge of materials, tools, and traditional construction

• An experience you won’t forget

This workshop is open to everyone, no musical background, no crafting experience required. Just a willingness to show up and make something real.
