Let’s Talk About Red Feather Studios
By Crea Sirene Egan Romanelli
There have been many stories of red feathers appearing in my life at important decision points—times of major transition, moments of opening, and gateways into creative realms and transformational passages.
So perhaps it is no surprise that Red Feather Studios has become what it is today.
My name is Crea.
I am a human being who has traveled this Earth, gathering stories, experiences, beauty, and the wisdom of many places along the way. For as long as I can remember—perhaps for all my years on this Earth—I have been drawn to the alchemy of making: making art, making places, making beauty, creating food, composing songs, and making space for people to come together.
There is a thread that has quietly woven itself through my life—a calling to create places that feel alive. Places where the natural world, imagination, creativity, nourishment, music, and community can meet.
I have come to understand place-making as a kind of tending. Like tending a garden, you listen for what wants to grow. You clear what has completed its season. You make room for unexpected seeds. And sometimes, if you are paying attention, the place itself begins to tell you what it wants to become.
My work has grown from this relationship with land, creativity, food, music, and community care. I have followed that thread around the world and back home again many times, creating spaces that offer shelter—not only from the elements, but for ideas, dreams, connection, transformation, and the wildness of being fully alive.
This is the story of how that thread has led me here.
For nearly eight years, longer than I have ever held one place, I have been occupying, cultivating, and tending this urban wildlife sanctuary and creative space. And when I say wildlife, I mean more than the creatures of the natural world who share this place with us. I also mean the wild life of imagination, inspiration, creativity, possibility, and spirit.
There is a feeling here—a sense of accumulated time and creation. You can feel the echoes of what has happened here, the richness of many lives intersecting, and the deep imprint of a loving embrace that has held space for one transformation after another.
The land itself seems to remember.
Over the years, this space has taken many forms and held many visions: from Land and Range Rover building, to Pitzen Studios and the Artful Earthscapes sculpture studio; from the Gulfport Food Forest Nursery and Seed Bank, to a co-lab workspace; from a home for the 49th Street Makers and Growers Market, to personal art studios and gatherings of creative collaborators.
For a time, a collective began circling around the possibility of birthing a Tea Garden and educational space. We explored, dreamed, planned, and gathered around that vision for a year or so. And then, just as we were approaching the moment of bringing it into the world, the ceiling caved in and most of the collective dispersed.
That was at the end of March.
Sometimes life has a way of making the metaphor physical.
I let go, too.
And in that letting go, something unexpected happened. I was guided through a process of rebuilding—not simply rebuilding the physical structure, but rebuilding the vision itself. As the pieces came back together, new professional collaborators appeared. The original MALA Tea Garden vision dissolved and shifted into Blue Sun Tea Garden, while Art House Boutique moved into the space.
And then another beautiful connection arrived.
Elle White of Soul Retreats came on board, a beautiful soul sister, fire horse spirit like myself and suddenly the vision I had been carrying for years began to take shape in a new and more expansive way: a dynamic, collaborative community-care space devoted to creativity, healthy living, learning, connection, and transformational experiences.
What I had imagined was no longer simply an idea.
It is becoming real.
I am deeply grateful for this multi faceted creative alliance and its expression as the next wave of creative connection and professional offerings taking shape within Red Feather Studios—and especially for what we have named the White Lotus Spa, with its wonderful lineup of practitioners bringing their gifts, knowledge, healing, creativity, and presence into the fold.
And with all of this, something else has happened.
I feel that Red Feather Studios is officially been born—with Blue Sun Tea Garden as part of its unfolding story.
There is something wonderfully poetic about that.
I never would have imagined that red, white, and blue would become my colors. Yet here we are.
Red Feather.
White Lotus.
Blue Sun.
Three colors. Three expressions. Three invitations into the next chapter.
Originally I wanted to name the community space Sovereign Tea Garden yet…
Perhaps this is what sovereignty looks like—not having a perfectly mapped-out plan, but remaining willing to listen, to release what has completed its journey, to rebuild when necessary, and to follow the creative thread toward what wants to emerge next.
Red Feather Studios has never really been one fixed thing.
It has been a living, breathing space for many things to become.
A sanctuary for wildlife and wild ideas.
A home for artists, makers, growers, teachers, practitioners, dreamers, and collaborators.
A place where things are built, dismantled, composted, imagined, and born again.
And perhaps, most importantly, a place where we can gather and remember that creativity is not separate from life.
Creativity is life.
So onward we go—into this next chapter of Red Feather Studios, Blue Sun Tea Garden, White Lotus Spa, and all the beautiful possibilities that have yet to reveal themselves.
With gratitude for what has been, presence for what is, and curiosity for what comes next.
Onwards, expressing our Sovereignty.
Love, Crea
